Studio Session | McCartt Triplets

Newborn studio sessions are a definite, easy fav for me when it comes to the things I enjoy most about my photography business! To put this lightly, I was ECSTATIC when Chelsea presented me with the opportunity to have her little miracles in the studio!

Yes, I said miracleS (with a CAPITAL S!) because I had TRIPLE the fun with this newborn session… So, without further ado, I introduce you to the MCCARTT TRIPLETS!

It was kind of a big deal for me, okay? They are the sweetest, most perfect trio there ever was and I am so excited to share more on this session and their story!

Babies are such a miraculous gift in and of itself, but these babies definitely have quite a story! With permission by their amazing mama, I am thrilled to be able to share some of that with you all. Knowing their story and how big of a deal it is to have all 3 of them healthy, HOME, and in front of my camera, makes this session all the more sweet.

These miracles were born at 26 weeks and 4 days after quite the complicated pregnancy. Chelsea (rockstar mama) was admitted to the hospital on June 9th to be monitored after experiencing complications at home. She was later sent home on bedrest and instructed to be on high alert for any possible further complications. After an emergency C-section, blood transfusion for mom and 135 total days in the NICU — their family is home and HEALTHY! More details from her pregnancy and delivery are in the next paragraph. (Note: If you can’t handle the talk of blood, skip to the next section <3 )

Birth Story:

“While at that visit I was monitored and had an ultrasound that revealed that all of the blood loss was caused by placenta previa due to Baby A. The next day I was still worried about the bleeding so I went into the OBGYN, and they again said to keep monitoring it so home I went. On Saturday evening June 13th, I leaned over in bed and felt two gushes. At first, I thought it could be pee (wishful thinking), but it was blood… so much blood. The blood had soaked through the pad, my underwear and my pj shorts! I got up to use the restroom and to check to see what happened, but the blood didn’t stop. I kept losing blood and the inside of the toilet looked like a bloody nightmare! A few minutes prior, I had called Tyler in to tell him what was going on. Minutes later we were rushing to the hospital. I was once again admitted, put on IVs and began being monitored again. They gave me magnesium, which by the way, isn’t fun! On Monday night June 15th, the bleeding seemed to stay the same, but they let me shower. While in the shower, I started gushing blood continuously again, but even worse this time. The doctor was alerted, and I went back to being monitored.

In the morning after losing even more blood and my babies only at 26 weeks and 4 days old, they decided to go for an emergency c-section! I was as pale as a ghost. My anxiety peaked, and I couldn’t control anything. I couldn’t stop worrying and just kept throwing up in the OR on the table as they were prepping me! They opted to put me to sleep due to losing so much blood and something with that interfering with the epidural. Tyler had gone home after staying the first night with me, and luckily Aurora was being watched which allowed him to make it back up there to see me as they were wheeling me off to the OR. I can’t imagine how Tyler felt when he saw me right before I went into the OR. All three babies were born within a minute and rushed to the NICU. After waking up from the c-section, I was told that the placenta from Baby A was almost detached and that his cord had been around his neck twice! Because I had lost over half of my body’s blood, I was given a blood transfusion, which helped so much! One of the tough things for me was that I wasn’t able to move much the whole time due to all the IVs and my incision! I can’t believe the craziness I went through leading up to their birth! I feel so blessed that my babies came out healthy, and I’m alive! The doctor shared with us that if I hadn’t been at the hospital already, the babies and me wouldn’t be alive today. I am very grateful. After 135 days in the NICU, our family has become complete. All our babies are home. Life is crazy, but we couldn’t be happier.”

Chelsea McCartt, Mama

Elle was the first to break out of the NICU and arrived home on Oct 12th, Collins on Oct 21st and Eve completed the bunch on Oct 29th. <3

I still can’t believe that I was able to capture their perfect, tiny features for their family to cherish forever. I’m SO thankful for Nicole with Photography by Nicole Johnson for being an extra set of (much needed) hands during this session!

I know life is crazy, in the sweetest way, for the Mccartt family and I feel very blessed to have been able to freeze time with these images. Aurora, their big sister, has got to be in heaven having 3 babies to endlessly snuggle!

Had to document their perfect features, including g-tubes, for mama to remember forever <3

I asked Chelsea how the adjustment was going. Honestly, that was probably a really dumb question because I am SURE life is crazy, but she is such a rockstar that you wouldn’t feel that in her presence! In her words, “the adjustment is as good as you can expect with triplets and a 4 year old!”

Chelsea and Tyler, you are AMAZING. Thank you for sharing your sweet, perfect babies with me for a short time and for allowing me to take these pictures for you! This is definitely a session I will never, ever forget.

Xo,

Ashley

*Chelsea and Tyler want to say thank you to the angels that work in the Chippenham NICU and to the friends and family that helped and supported them through the difficult times. <3
